In Search Of Love.
Ever confused love with passion? Feelings of attraction can change more quickly than the seasons, but love, in its truest form, is greater than feelings. All of us are in search of true love. We look for that ‘someone’ who will love us just the way we are ‘unconditionally’ every moment of every day. But how difficult it is to find such love! The fact that the world’s celebrities fall in and out of love, marry, divorce, remarry and divorce, yet again, is proof that money and fame cannot buy this kind of love.
Sometimes, we think we’ve found that one true love, the guy who said for the hundredth time that he could never live without you, or that pretty girl who said she’d be yours forever. But sooner or later, reality strikes. Or maybe when the going got really tough, those endless promises weren’t kept. Or maybe one fine day they just changed their minds and went looking elsewhere. But then, does true love change? The disappointment that comes when you discover that the ‘true’ love was not really true is hard to handle. It’s hard to start the search all over again. And, is it really worth it? Many have ended their lives unable to handle the disappointment of unfulfilled love. Can true love really be found?
Someone up there Loves You
A certain farmer had an unusual weathervane on his barn. Inscribed on the arrow were these words: “God is love.” A passerby turned in at the gate and asked the farmer, “What do you mean by that? Do you think God’s love is changeable; that it veers about is that arrow turns in the winds?” “Oh, no,” replied the farmer, “Whichever way the wind blows, God is still love.”
The Bible states plainly: God is love (1 John 4:8). His love for us is intense. His love is absolute. Regardless of what goes on, He still loves us. It is that ‘one true love.’ The Bible says: I’m absolutely convinced that nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our master has embraced us (Romans 8: 38,39). Jesus demonstrated the wonderful love of God.
Ever tried relating to someone, but felt an invisible wall that just didn’t allow you to connect with that person? Well, ‘sin’ (our wrongdoing/offense/trespass) is like that invisible barrier that keeps us from connecting with God (Isaiah 59:1,2). A ‘wrong’ life creates a chasm between you and God. Though God loves us deeply with an unending, true and unconditional love, our experts offense are a barrier between God and us.
No Greater Love
A doctor looks down at a little girl in the hospital bed. Knowing that her only hope was a blood donation from someone who had recovered from the same disease as hers, the doctor approaches to her anxious family and kneels beside a small boy, “Johnny,”he says, “your sister needs your kind of blood to make her well. Would you be willing to give your blood so that she can live?” The doctor watched Johnny’s eyes loom with fear. But after only a brief hesitation, the boy replies, “Sure Doctor, I will do it.” After Johnny donates his blood, he remains quiet for a few minutes as instructed and then stand up asking softly: “Well, Doctor, when do I die?” Only then did the doctor realize the extent of the child’s sacrifice. Johnny thought he had to offer his life to save his sister and was still willing. Jesus said: No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13)
On the Cross
Two thousand years ago, God made the greatest demonstration of His love for us. Jesus God who had become man allowed Himself to be killed on the Cross. He was making a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. We were the guilty ones who had done wrong. Our wrongdoing prevented us from having a meaningful relationship with our Creator. However, God loves us so much that He really wanted us to be in relationship with Him, So, He decided to break the Barrier of sin and make it possible for every person to enter into a wonderful love relationship with Him.
This is how God showed His love for us: God sent His son into the world so we might live through Him. This is the kind of love we are talking about not that we once upon a time loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God (1 John 4: 9,10)
A Love Relationship that Lasts.
In proving His love for us by taking the first step to remove the barrier of sin that separated us from Him. God goes a step further and makes it possible for every person to become His own son or daughter.
But as many as received Him (Jesus). He gave to them authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on His name (John 1:12)
God’s love for you is unconditional. Through Jesus Christ, you can enter into a lasting love relationship with the true and living God. When you receive Jesus into your life, you become a child of God. God becomes your Father. You are now in a love relationship with the God of this universe, a love relationship that no one else can break!
Responding to True Love
What an amazing fact! What amazing love, that the Holy and just God would Himself remove the barrier caused by our offences and then invite us to become His own children! What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! We are called children of God! That’s who we really are!
But, that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who He is or what He’s up to (1 John 3:1).
Jesus loves you. However, you need to respond to His love and allow Him to work in your life, so that you can experience His love. His love will totally transform you. His love will make all the difference in your life. His love will give you into the depths of God that you never imagined you could go into.
Will you respond to His love for you?
Making Your Decision
Love, true love, is a decision. Jesus loved you enough to give His own life, so that the barrier caused by your offences would be removed and you could have the privilege of becoming a child of God. When you respond to His love, you too must make a decision. The decision is to receive Jesus and allow Him to be a part of your life. The decision is to believe in Jesus as the only One who take away your sins and who can make you a child of God.
I invite you to say this prayer to respond to the Lord Jesus and His love for you:
Lord Jesus I admit that I have done wrong. Thank you for removing the barrier caused by my wrongdoings, by your love. I now turn my life over to you, to your love. Thank you for making me a child of the living God. In Jesus name, Amen.
